St. Paul's Rectory in Woodbury Becomes Designer Showcase

The designer of this piece is Wendy Brazauskas, Southbury comfort of home. "Inspired by the history of the Church of St. Paul, we imagine that the living room of the rectory was used by the clergy, for entertaining guests, both ecclesiastical colleagues and parishioners. The family of the priest probably used the room as well, to hold small social gatherings such as afternoon tea, "the designer's vision of media releases for the tour. “The design for the library/den was inspired by the rich textures of the oriental rug, tapestry and fabrics paired with the Venetian plaster walls that creates a warm glow,” she wrote. “The room has a masculine yet welcoming feel to it. The antique sunburst chairs, folk art angels on the mantel and fanciful accents create a perfect gathering place.” The faux painting on the walls is the work of Dee Hession of Southington and Janice Paul of Mid¬dlebury who were dubbed “the Faux Belles in the Faux Business” by one of their favorite clients. The window treatments are by Claudette Cawley, who owns Deerwood Designs LLC, a wholesale/retail drapery workroom in Bethlehem, which she established in 2008. “Inspired by traditions of the past, the retired design team of Mariana Daniels and Donna Tye has taken a Country Victorian approach in re-creating the rectory’s master bedroom—a room that might be both pleasing and comforting to a residing Church Rector of the past or the present,” the release explains. “The array of tasteful yet simple furnishings is generously on loan to the designers from the private homes of the many friends and parishioners of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The vintage prints collection imparts a nostalgic feel¬ing that is echoed by meaningful touches that include a gathering of antique prayer books and photographs belonging to St. Paul’s Church and on display as a tribute to this church’s fine heritage.
