Review: "Shadow of the Bat!"
So I heard beforehand that this episode was going to have Batman turn into a vampire, and after the disaster that was Bat-boy and Rubin which used the same premise , I was just a teensy bit concerned about how this episode would be. Luckily, my fears were entirely unfounded, and this episode rocked. But let's start at the beginning. So as you may have guessed, the panther is Catwoman's (she named it Hecate, just like the black cat she had in the '60s Batman movie). Her big plan seems to be to drug Batman with a special jungle flower that will turn him into her love slave. But who should appear at that exact moment but Bat-Ape to save the day!! ( Yes. Bat-Ape. ) The gorilla makes short work of Catwoman and Hecate, who end up running away with their tails between their legs. The main episode begins in Gotham, as usual. Batman is patrolling with Jason Blood a.k.a. Etrigan. Blood is using his Nosferatu tracer (that is, a vampire detector thingy) to find a vampire-infected women named Dala ( oh, really ). They follow her to a topiary garden where a nice fight scene ensues. Dala is ultimately defeated--but not before she takes a bite out of Batsy. Etrigan is too busy rhyming to notice that Batman has been bitten, and the two go their separate ways--Etrigan to find a cure for Dala, Batman to do his regular patrol. At about the same time that all this is occuring, Black Mask and his gang are busy robbing a jewelry store. Batman watches from the shadows before jumping into the fray, but there's something a little off about our beloved Dark Knight. The bullets being shot at him seem to have no effect. He moves a lot faster than usual. His eyes glow unnaturally in the dark. He seems more shadow than human, which makes him pretty much impossible for Black Mask and Co. to defeat. Blackie does his best, but he eventually winds up as Bat-food.
