Investigation ongoing of marijuana growing found on public lands

State and federal officials are investigating a possible connection between two large marijuana growing operations found in publicly owned forests in northwestern Wisconsin.

The Ashland and Rusk County Sheriffs' Department and the U.S. attorney's office in Madison are looking for possible links between two recently discovered marijuana plantations. One in the Flambeau State Forest, the other in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, north of Park Falls.

State and federal officials this week destroyed thousands of plants found in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. National Forest spokeswoman Suzanne Flory says she fears this won't be the last time pot growers are found in the National forest. She says, "It's something we feel that won't be going away, something that we need people to be aware of, both the public and our employees. We have employees in the national forest that spend a good part of their time in the field."

Loaded firearms were found at the campsite near one of the pot fields.

Flory says these operations also pose a pollution threat. In a similar pot plantation found near Oconto last year the growers had clear cut several one to two acre plots and then used irrigation and chemical fertilizer to grow the marijuana. She says, "As you know the Northwoods is pretty heavily wooded and thick and when you have these small clearings they're pretty hard to detect unless you come across them by accident which is what happened in this one with, a hunter."

There has been speculation that these pot plantations are the work of Mexican drug cartels, but so far there is no solid evidence to support that theory.

Swanson’s Family Medicine Review: Expert Consult – Online and Print

I am in my second year of an online FNP program, just beginning my clinicals. This book is an excellent source for writing history/physicals, case studies, looking for basic information for subjective data, follow-ups, referrals, etc. It is not an in-depth text but is crammed with a wealth of “basic” information on many diagnoses. It is not the “cheapest” book out there. For a text that is not required, the cost certainly has a bit of an “ouch” factor to it for over $70. But, it is worth the bite to took to my budget. I would recommend it! But if you are hesitating, take a look at it (it does have the “look inside” feature here on Amazon).
