Caterpillar Offer 3500C Tier 3 Marine Power Solutions
Caterpillar Marine Power Systems is pleased to announce starting in January 2012, the legendary Cat 3500C marine engines will enter full production meeting United States EPA Tier 3 regulations. Cat 3500C Tier 3 compliant offerings will include propulsion, auxiliary and diesel electric propulsion (DEP) engines. All Cat 3500C offerings will not require after treatment modules to meet Tier 3 regulations as a result of incorporating innovative fuel and air system modifications into the design of the engines. “We’re pleased to offer our customers impacted by the United States EPA regulations a timely, comprehensive power solution that doesn’t require after treatment or sacrifice performance,” said Bob Hallengren, Caterpillar Marine Power Systems Product and Application Manager. “We’re offering a wide range of power ratings to the market and were also able to incorporate several new standard features into the design.” “We installed the 3516C EPA Tier 3 engines on the Ocean Titan, a 120’ Z-drive tug boat and have been very pleased with the powerful performance delivered by the Tier 3 engines,” noted Bob Shrewsbury, co-owner of Western Towboats based in Seattle, Washington. “It is imperative for our operations to incorporate sustainable, efficient power solutions into our vessels and we know we can always rely on Caterpillar for innovative product offerings that help us get the job done.” For customers operating in IMO-II regulated waters and non-EPA regulated territories, the Cat 3500C Tier 2 compliant engines can still be ordered in 2012. Those customers operating within EPA regulated waters will be able to order the Tier 3 compliant 3512C and 3516C engines from their local Cat dealers starting in fourth quarter 2011.Caterpillar Marine Power Systems, with headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, manages the marketing and service activities for Cat and MaK marine engines within Caterpillar Inc.
