August 18 – Manchester United Sold?After falling on hard times in the 1980’s, Manchester United chairman Martin Edwards made the decision to sell the club to Isle of Man-based property tycoon Michael Knighton and it was on this day in soccer history in 1989 that reports came out that the Red Devils were sold for £20m in the biggest takeover deal in the history of British football.
The rumors of the sale were well known but the details were completed in secrecy and the final decision to sell somewhat surprising as the Edward’s family controlled the team for the previous 25 years.

"I believe that under new direction and with new financial backing this club can go even further," Mr Edwards said.
The sale ultimately fell through when Knighton’s backers pulled out at the last minute and they have themselves to blame for the poor decision. The Edward’s family kept control of the team until 2005 when Florida billionaire Malcolm Glazer came calling with an estimated £800m deal which ultimately did go through.

It’s forgivable if there were some fans who thought Sounders could make a game of it with Manchester United. Although the first team did play level to a Manchester United side without Wayne Rooney they missed big opportunities to score, managed to leave Michael Owen unmarked, not once but twice. Second time he may have been offside, but was saved by Keller.
It was impressive that Sounders had opportunities to score and were still in the match.
The second half, Wayne Rooney & Ji-Sun Park came on, several key Sounders were subbed off and things fell apart quick. Wayne Rooney being Wayne Rooney. Hat trick in under 30 minutes.
