Fishing zone reports for July 29

It’s been a week of sensational fluke fishing in the Raritan Reach. After a couple of days of slow fishing over the weekend, Capt. Ed Bunting of the Seahorse, Atlantic Highlands, reported Tuesday’s fishing was one of the best days of the year and Wednesday’s the best. The fish were there to eat and he reported lots of limits, with all kinds of baits working. He said that if you didn’t get at least four keepers, you weren’t fishing. Capt. Scott Hilliard of the Prowler also had a super day on Tuesday, saying it was his best day of the year, with plenty of limit catches on big fish. His first drift lasted 4½ hours with non-stop action. Ryan Nava, Leonardo, was the pool winner with a 7¾-pound fluke. He also reported the big blues are still biting on the Shrewsbury Rocks on jigs. Capt. Mike Russo of the Sea Hunter, Perth Amboy, called the fishing phenomenal. He said it was drop a line and catch a fish. Jerry Pytel, Avenel, got a 9.9-pound fluke, plus his limit. Capt. Rob of the Sea Hunter also reported super fluke fishing this week with plenty of big fluke and even a few limits which is hard to do on a half day trip. The biggest fluke was a 9.6-pound doormat caught by Howard Dicicco and a 7 pounder by Kenny Ferris from Atlantic Highlands. Jimmy at Julian’s Bait and Tackle in Atlantic Highlands said the fluke fishing has been good along the beaches as well as a bit offshore. He also reported sea bass on the hard bottom by the Mud Buoy and excellent crabbing. Chris Salus, Crabby’s Bait and Tackle in Keyport said the fluking is in full swing with Gulp! in all sizes and shapes catching fish, with the most popular being the 4-inch swimming mullet. The report from Jack Monteiro at Surf Side Bait and Tackle in Long Branch is that the the summer table is still set with a wide variety of fish. Anglers are catching fluke, triggerfish, kingfish, and snappers in the surf. Glen Davis caught an 8.8-pound fluke using a squid strip and and Gulp! in the Long Branch surf.

Third drug store coming to Bolton | Your Caledon online newspaper

Bolton will soon have a third drug store. Dick Yerex from Rexdale plans to open a pharmacy in the new Hilltop Shopping Centre. He graduated with a B.Sc. Phm. degree from the University of Toronto in 1957, and since that time has worked for McMullan’s Pharmacy in Rexdale. Dick and his wife Joan have two children, Brett and Shelley, and have moved into their new home on Leonard Street. David Neelands from Mono Road was the top Grade 13 student at Brampton High School and had first class honours on all 11 subjects taken. He will enter the arts course at the University of Toronto in the fall. Other Bolton area students passing Grade 13 subjects were Philip Fitzpatrick, Edwin Franklin, Neils Hansen, Allan Houstoun, Robert Kee, Thomas Rankin and Laura Smith. Wrestling was such a hit at Mayfield Recreation Complex that a second night of grunt and groans have been arranged. The main event sees Whipper Billy Watson and Haystack Calhoun team up to match wits with the Love Brothers. For the first time in the history of Chinguacousy Township there will be legalized women wrestlers. The card also includes Mighty Igor, Big John Quinn, Dewey Robertson Red Pollard and Whipper Watson Jr. Ringside seats are $2.50 and general admission is $2. It was a rock and roll day at The Humberview School day camp. Rap music, spiked hair, guitars and musical instruments took over the stage. The Heslin sisters –  Michelle and Jennifer and their friend Ariane Stewart – enjoyed dancing and singing on stage. More than 40 campers attended the festivities. Camp counsellors are Roxanne Hook, Stephanie Pring, Kim and Susie Henderson.
